The basic industries: food, chemical, metallurgical, metal working and mechanical engineering, textile, manufacture of glass (on export of glass and mirrors the country takes 1 place in the world). Belgium depends on import of power resources (imports oil and gas); 60% of all Belgian electric power are made at nuclear stations. The state has large ports (Antwerp, Brugge, Gent, Ostende); a dense network of fine automobile and railways, the airports of the international value. In agriculture they plant large horned livestock, grow up a sugar beet, vegetables and fruit, make grain. The meat-and-milk animal industries is developed. Belgium is one of the largest manufacturers of dairy production in Europe. The country exports machines and the equipment, black and nonferrous metals, production of the chemical industry, textiles. Belgium imports power raw material, the foodstuffs, machines and the equipment. |
